About

Hi!  My name is Becky, and Crumbdoodles is my little nebula in the Universe of the interwebs.  I live in (very) rural Maine with my husband, two dogs, 4 cats, and a collection of fish.

When I was young, my parents homeschooled us.  Almost every day for awhile in grade school, I would tell my mom I had to go to the bathroom.  Instead actually using the bathroom, I would sneak upstairs and make a “surprise” for Mom.  My “surprises” almost always consisted of little bowls of air-popped popcorn topped with a variety of concoctions, because the air-popper was the only piece of kitchen equipment I was allowed to use at that young age.   The popcorn flavors ranged from savory spices, to cinnamon/nutmeg, to rainbow sprinkles.   I’ve come to realize that my interest in cooking, my work on Crumbdoodles, really everything I do with food is basically me still making “surprises”…for my mom, for my family, for the Hubs, maybe for the world.  Although, I am happy to say I have graduated way beyond air-poppers and am now fully allowed to use all sorts of kitchen equipment.  :)

My hero, Edward Espe Brown, once said (or wrote, can’t remember which), “The food will taste better when the cook is joyful.”  I hope this blog is a reflection of that.  Even when recipes or adventurous culinary imaginings don’t work out as planned, there’s still joy to be had from, as EEB also says, letting your hands be hands and working directly with the food you eat.

So, welcome!  I hope you like it here.  I love hearing from readers so please feel free to contact me.
